Our all time favourite - Mere Villa
The question we get asked most often is "What is the best accommodation place in Estonia that you have visited?", so we are happy to introduce you to our all time favourite Villa Mere in the middle of the Matsalu National Park in Estonia.
Honestly... just looking at these pictures makes us miss it so much that we are looking at the next available dates to book :)
Villa Mere is a spacious house that has only recently been renovated - in 2020 and it can accommodate up to 12 people so it makes for a perfect place for either a nice group of friends that appreciate nature or for small companies to host thei summer days at.Even tho it is a big house we also felt really cozy by just the two of us - the well decorated interior and big windows directed at the beautiful meadow made us feel at home.
By the way Mere Villa has a proper smart AC, so during the hottest days you can catch a break inside the house, cook together, play board games or watch TV.. Tho the last option does sound like crime in a beautiful spot such as this.
Both from the windows and from the spacious terrace you can catch a view to the vast meadows and the seaside and we were lucky enough to also see deers and baby foxes minding their business there.
During our stay it was 30+ degrees outside so obviously we spent majority of our time in the beautiful pond which is exactly the thing we all wish for during these temperatures. Ben was especially happy about the fact that the pond was really clean and see-through.
Another cool fact about Mere Villa - the terrace and bridge that leads to the pond has been built so it can also be used by all the locals - both the birds and other beautiful creatures can easily access the pond to have a drink of fresh water. It almost became a form of meditaion to just sit and observe both the birds that I had not yet seen in Estonia as well as baby foxes come for a drink. The best time to get a chance to see these guys is either in the early morning or late evening.
Additionally to the pond you will find a hot jacuzzy built into the terrace - a perfect spot for enjoying the sunset from.
Right near the jacuzzy there is a door that leads to a spacious bathroom and sauna - it's like a small spa area that also has a beautiful bath tub with a view to the sea.
On the top level of the terrace there is a big dining table and a proper barbeque that makes for a group even easier.
Additionally to that the kitchen inside the house has everything you might need for a proper meal.
From the right side of the pond you can access a bridge that leads to a small and very well kept garden with herbs. We took our hosts advice and got some fresh peppermint to go with out drinks.
Behind the garden there is a path that leads to the seaside, so do take your wellies with you - it makes accessing the wild beach easier and safer.
The house blends in with the National Park both inside and outside - the illustrations and textures inspired by the nature match the outside impressively well. The Saaremaa style junipers, the entrance in Muhu colours and other local details make the whole space feel patriotic.
A bit further away from the main house there is also a small guest house - perfect for those who seek more privacy while on a vacation with a group. The guest house also has a small terrace and is perfect for two people.
What to take with?
This place is overall very comfortable so you do not need much in order to have a great time, but in order to enjoy yourself to the fullest we do recommend to take wellies with as we mentioned before.And since the closest store is 30-minute drive away in Lihula, we advise you to plan your meals ahead and take them with in a thermo box.
To sum it up - if you feel like you would like to treat yourself or someone dear to you and enjoy the Estonian summer to the fullest, Mere Villa in Matsalu National Park is the place that we wholeheartedly recommend. We really hope to visit it again soon!
